To the Second Year Teacher:I don't think you get enough credit. We put so much emphasis on describing and defining the first year teacher. And for good reason, I suppose. The first year is the time where we take off the training wheels and throw ourselves into the profession. We make mistakes. We get better. We laugh, cry, question and conquer. The first year can make or break a teacher and boasts a year of wonderful growth.
But think about it: the Second Year Teacher gets to reflect back on their first year and make their experience even better. This is the time where we can say, "Yeah, I made it through the first year and I'm back. And this time, it's going to be even better." My focus is to celebrate and consider where we have come from and how we have changed. This is the year where we show just how much we can learn and improve. Where will I go from here as a Second Year Teacher? I guess we'll have to find out. |
